REAL VENICE is a major art project initiated by Venice in Peril and Ivorypress that aims to harness the creativity, the vigour, the internationalism – and the financial power – of contemporary art to saving Venice.
Fourteen internationally renowned photographers were invited to visit Venice and create a portfolio of images. Each photographer has donated an edition of their portfolio to be sold in aid of Venice in Peril.
From 11 October - 11 December 2011 the Real Venice collection was on view at Somerset House in London in a major exhibition curated by Elena Foster. Coinciding with this exhibition, selected works from the Real Venice collection were included in the Photographs Sale at Phillips de Pury & Company, London on 3 November 2011.
Over the summer Real Venice was on display at the Abbey of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice as part of the 54th Venice Biennale.
