Tiina Itkonen lives and works in Helsinki, Finland. She studied photography at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki. Since 1995 she has traveled regularly to Greenland to photograph polar landscapes and people. Her panoramic images catch evocative still scene of the city from a distance, creating an impression of the unfamiliar, the unrealistic and the nostalgic.
Her work has been exhibited in The Biennale of Sydney, Daegu Photo Biennale, Korea (2010), The National Museum of Photography, Copenhagen, Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, Shiseido Gallery, Tokyo (2009) and Michael Hoppen Contemporary, London (2008 and 2005). Her photographs are also held in many permanent collections including Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Fundacio Foto Colectania, Barcelona and Helsinki City Art Museum.
